Did you know:

• Adults with disabilities are 2-3 times more likely to have heart disease, stroke, diabetes, or cancer than adults without disabilities
• 60% of all adults with disabilities get no aerobic physical activity, an important health behavior to help avoid these chronic diseases
• 81% of people with disabilities say they do not feel welcome in fitness spaces

This presentation will look at the current state of health for individuals with a disability and address issues of ableism across Campus Recreation and physical activity programs. Learners will be educated on best practices when engaging with people with disability. Participants will also learn how to implement appropriate physical activity and recreational programs for all individuals and become familiar with Lakeshore Foundation and other great resources.

Continuing Education Credits

Participants who complete this program will be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits in either the Core Student Affairs Educator Certification (CSAEd™) or Certified Student Affairs Educator-Campus Recreation (CSAEd-CR™) 

NIRSA has been approved by the Higher Education Consortium for Student Affairs Certification to provide CE credit for Certified Student Affairs Educators (CSAEd™). NIRSA is solely responsible for all aspects of this program.
